In The End

Ready or not,
Someday it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises,no minutes, hours or days
It won't matter where you came from
Or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.
It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin colour will be irrelevant.
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion and courage,
What will matter is not your competence, but your character
What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you are gone.
Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident.
It's not a matter of circumstance,
but of choice.
This was an article i read in the Times Of India edition dated December 29,2007.Simple,and yet so beautifully it has a lot of meaning about what we are and the lives we lead.

Title? : Hell ya

so what does the frigging title of this blog mean?i mean the general "intelligentsia",i suppose dont know what the hell it means!so anyway, its just a term i made,of the two words "minx" and "egress"[ya they are two separate words!].what exactly was the point of making this term,i dunno.I mean it sounds like im some ...i dunno...a conservative feminist or something like that.hell,im NOT!
in any case,to those who are still wondering what the HELL these words mean :
"minx" (noun) - 1.A girl or young woman who is considered pert, flirtatious, or impudent.
2.Obsolete A promiscuous woman. :D
"egress" (noun) - [No,it does NOT have anything to do with a female ogre :P ]
1.the act or an instance of going, esp. from an enclosed place.
2.a means or place of going out; an exit.
3.the right or permission to go out.
so that basically is that.actually,i had a blog before this one, which was covenantwoman.blogspot.com, whose name i had got from a bob dylan song of the same name.but then i got bugged of it,'cause i never did end up writing anything on it! :D now thats called irony!so,anyway,i got rid of that and deleted it.
then i made a new one.this is that.initially i named it blabberboard.blogspot.com .today, out of sheer boredom,i decided to check if id get my blog if i googled it.well, the results were'nt particularly gratifying.i came up with a hell lot of results, and none of them had anything to do with my blog :( so that huge big bubble of credit that i had given to my "sheer genius" for coining that term [blabberboard] just kind of burst.
so i searched for a few things.oxymoron.blogspot.com didnt work out 'cause some weirdo is using it.[weirdo 'cause he/she doesnt have a clue as to why he/she made the blog, and is a helluva confused person, and whose only single post is "what the hell is this"(good question,by the way),so which basically makes the whole blog USELESS and totally unfair to me :-( ]
i just kind of browsed a few dictionaries, and just put together two absolutely not connected words, and ta-da.born was the name of this site.
cheers.
and hopes that this blog does not share the same fate as covenant woman :D

Rock On!!

Rock On!!,the latest product from Bollywood, making waves in the urban theatres(shit, that sounded supremely like a critic review!),produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar(director of the awesome movie Dil Chahta Hai) and directed by Abhishek Kapoor, is a story about four guys set out to make it big with their band Magik. It has a simple cast, which surprise you with their acting prowess -
Farhan Akhtar - Aditya Shroff , a financial dude in the later half of his life, and the band's lead singer.
Prachi Desai - Aditya's wife, who plays a pivotal role in getting the band together
Arjun Rampal - Joe Mascarenhas, the lead guitarist, and the out of work husband.
Shabana Goswami - Joe's pretty wife, who has aspirations of becoming a famous stylist, and later becomes Joe's frustrated fish-selling wife.
Luke Kenny - Rob,the keyboard-wala,and who handles the technical stuff of the band.
Purab Kohli - KD,the band's crazy drummer and the guy with the bestest humour in the movie, and the cute beaded beard.
The movie is simple and clean. And its USP is that it connects with the youngsters because of its realistic approach, and the importance of realising your dreams. The music is good clean rock, and refreshing because it is one of the few hindi movies which has only rock music with hindi lyrics.A lot of drums, guitar and good beats, that make you hum the song even if you really did not catch the lyrics in the first go.Although must say,its a good attempt by the lyricist Javed Akhtar,as it gives the feel to the movie.About the compositions, well done to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Farhan Akhtar, who must say was over-used in the movie(c'mon man! hes the actor-producer-AND-singer!) lives upto the expectations in all three roles.
Now,about the story - in their 20's,these four believe that they can conquer the world with the music, and with their "Magik".They save up and prepare themselves to take part in a contest, that clinches them a deal to make an album, and a video of their own. This is where things turn sour. They are forced to make compromises, and Joe(Arjun) feels that Aditya is being favoured by the music company, and that the others are being side-lined completely. This leads to a tussle,Aditya goes back where he came from, and the band breaks up.
Ten years down the line,Aditya is married, and leads a SAD life as a financial expert, and there's no music in his life.Joe has a music shop, performs occasionally on stage, but is unhappy with life, with his wife constantly nagging him about his unemployment.Rob works with Anu malik(?!) and is the only one amongst the four who's still connected with his passion.KD works at his dad's jewellry shop.
A chance meeting with Sakshi(Prachi desai),prompts KD to get in touch with the other 3,and try patching up their differences.Eventually, the story unfolds that noone is really happy, and has sacrificed adn compromised everywhere. The story then goes on to show their re-union,the almost-going away of Joe,the love of KD (with Koel Purie),and the saddest part -the death of Rob due to brain tumour. They perform for the last time together on stage, which is one of the most brilliant scenes of the movie, with the screaming crowds, and Joe's wife crying in the wings.touching.
Its a very good movie, and deserves the accolades.Watch it,I say.You might not regret it.If the movie has its anomalies, you ignore them because the cast and crew has touched the essence of the movie.
I'd give it * * * * stars.
And I'm going to watch it in the theatres again.
:-)
